3D printer warranties by brand: length, coverage and claims

3D printer extended warranties compared: maker and retailer plans

In the US, extended warranties for 3D printers come from retailers (Micro Center, Best Buy, MatterHackers) and from Creality, Prusa and Elegoo for their own printers. Bambu Lab sells none in the US. Most plans exclude nozzles and other consumables, and only Creality's and Elegoo's add accidental damage.

In the US you can buy a 3D printer extended warranty from Micro Center, Best Buy or MatterHackers, or from Creality, Prusa and Elegoo for printers bought in their own stores. Bambu Lab and Flashforge sell no extension in the US.

Each plan is summarized from the seller’s own terms as read on October 23, 2026 (Micro Center’s plan page from an archived copy of July 2026). Plans change, and this is not legal advice.

MatterHackers’ Bambu Lab listings add one year to a 1-year maker warranty. Bambu Lab ties its 2-year warranty to Bambu Store US purchases, so ask MatterHackers what its plan adds on a Bambu Lab printer.

Is an extended warranty worth it for a 3D printer?

An extended warranty for a 3D printer pays off only when its price is small next to the repairs it would cover in the years it adds. Most plans exclude the hotend, nozzle and other consumables and start only when the maker’s warranty ends. Micro Center’s, Best Buy’s and Creality’s plans also cap claims at the printer’s price.

Five things decide it:

  • Price against the printer. MatterHackers lists its $99 A series plan beside a $299 Bambu Lab A1 and a $219 A1 mini: 33% and 45% of the printer. In Europe, Bambu Lab’s €39 P2S plan is about 6% of a €699 P2S.
  • What it leaves out. Micro Center excludes “any part that is considered consumable by the manufacturer”, and Bambu Lab, Elegoo and QIDI class the hotend and nozzle as consumables (Creality, the nozzle). The parts that wear fastest stay uncovered. Only Creality’s plan and Elegoo’s Seel plan cover accidental damage.
  • Overlap with the maker’s warranty. Count only the years a plan adds. Micro Center and Best Buy start hardware cover when the maker’s warranty ends. Creality’s 1-year plan adds only accident and surge cover inside Creality’s own 12 months.
  • The claim cap. Micro Center pays up to “the retail price paid for Your Product minus sales tax and claims paid”. Best Buy ends the plan after one replacement or store credit, at most the price paid including tax. Creality caps claims at the purchase price.
  • The repair you would pay for. On Bambu Store US in October 2026, a P2S AP board (a main circuit board) costs $120.00, about the price of MatterHackers’ $119 P2S plan. The P2S screen costs $130.00, its heatbed $69.99 and an X2D AP board $149.00. Prusa’s CORE One xBuddy mainboard is $129.99.

Does Micro Center offer an extended warranty on 3D printers?

Yes. Micro Center sells its Protection Plan on 3D printers as an Extension plan, which starts when the manufacturer’s warranty ends. It covers mechanical and electrical breakdowns, power surges, and failures from dust, internal heat and humidity. Micro Center administers it and says it is “brought to you by Assurant”. It excludes consumables and accidental damage.

  • Buying it. Add it with the printer, or later within the 15-day return period by bringing the printer and receipt to the store. Micro Center’s plan pages list no prices: “Our Sales Representatives have all of the details, including costs.”
  • Claiming. Carry the printer into any Micro Center; no appointment is needed and there is no deductible. Report a failure within 30 days of it happening and before the plan expires.
  • Exclusions. Besides consumables, the contract excludes failures from “alteration of the equipment” or “the use of supplies other than those recommended by the manufacturer”. It also excludes printers over 5 years old and “Equipment used in commercial or industrial settings”: “anything other than a single family dwelling”. A printer in a school, office or print farm is not covered. How upgrades affect the maker’s cover is on does upgrading void the warranty.
  • Cancelling or selling. Cancel within 60 days for a full refund, less claims; later cancellations are prorated. The plan transfers by written notice to Micro Center. Micro Center’s help article says plans “cannot be renewed or extended.”

What is Micro Center’s 3D printer warranty policy without a plan?

Without a plan, a printer from Micro Center has only its maker’s warranty, shown on the product page. Micro Center’s Bambu Lab A1 listing gives 1 year for parts and 1 year for labor. For two brands, Micro Center handles the warranty itself:

  • Bambu Lab: Micro Center offers “warranty replacement/exchange of the printer only, not individual parts or repair”, and the printer need not be disassembled.
  • Creality: Micro Center calls itself “the warranty holders for Creality printers” but cannot repair them. Contact Creality at [email protected] first. If Creality confirms a warranty fault, bring the printer in disassembled with Creality’s email for a replacement or buyout.

Does Best Buy offer an extended warranty on 3D printers?

Yes. Best Buy sells Geek Squad Protection for 3D printers: its 4-Year Standard plan (SKU 6664938) cost $99.99 on October 23, 2026. The price “varies by product” and shows in the cart.

Once the maker’s warranty ends, the plan covers failures from defects, normal wear and tear, dust, internal overheating, humidity and power surges (lightning included). If the maker’s warranty excludes a listed failure, such as a surge, Best Buy covers it from day one. Assurant companies administer it, Federal Warranty Service Corporation in most states.

  • Not covered: accidental damage, consumable or consumer-replaceable items, separately bought upgrades, repairs by anyone Best Buy has not authorized, and use outside the maker’s intended uses.
  • Claims: carry the printer into a Best Buy store, start online or call 1-800-433-5778. Best Buy repairs or replaces it, or issues a store credit or gift card up to the price paid, including tax.
  • Cancelling or selling: a full refund within 30 days, less any service received, then pro rata. Transfer to a new owner is free by phone.

Can you buy an extended warranty from the printer maker?

Yes, from Creality, Prusa and Elegoo in the US, for printers bought from the maker.

  • Anycubic: none on the Kobra S1, Kobra S1 Max, Kobra 3 V2 or Kobra X store pages in October 2026, though its protection page mentions a Seel plan on “select models only”. See Anycubic warranty.
  • Bambu Lab: none in the US; its one-year plan is sold in Canada, Europe and Australia. See Bambu Lab extended warranty.
  • Creality: Product Protection at checkout. See Creality warranty.
  • Elegoo: a Seel plan on “certain printer models” that Elegoo does not list. See Elegoo warranty.
  • Flashforge: none; its warranty policy mentions no extension. See Flashforge warranty.
  • Prusa: one or two extra years, only in the same order as the printer. See Prusa warranty.
  • QIDI: none for current models; its warranty statement offers no paid extension. Its US store lists a paid year only for the older i-Fast ($250) and X-CF Pro ($200), beyond the 2 free years those models get when bought there. See QIDI warranty.
