3D printer warranties by brand: length, coverage and claims

Most desktop 3D printers carry a 1-year warranty in the US, and Bambu Lab gives 2 years on printers bought from Bambu Store US. This page sets eight makers' published terms side by side: the printer, the hotend and nozzle, shorter-period parts, paid extensions and where to claim.

Most desktop 3D printers carry a warranty: typically 1 year in the US, or 2 years for a Bambu Lab printer bought from Bambu Store US. At most makers, hotends and nozzles get 3 months of cover or none.

This summarizes each maker’s policy as published on October 23, 2026, for filament printers bought new in the US. Policies change, and this is not legal advice.

Do 3D printers have a warranty?

Desktop 3D printers do come with a warranty. Anycubic, Creality, Elegoo, Flashforge, Prusa, QIDI and Sovol each give US buyers a 1-year limited warranty against defects, and Bambu Lab gives 2 years on printers bought from Bambu Store US. Hotends, nozzles and build plates usually get 3 months or no cover at all.

How long is a 3D printer warranty?

A 3D printer warranty in the US usually lasts 1 year from around the day the printer arrives. Bambu Lab is the exception, with 2 years on Bambu Store US purchases. Extruders and print heads often get 3 or 6 months, and most makers give nozzles no warranty at all. Paid extensions add one or two years.

Consumers in the EU get 2 years from Bambu Lab, Creality, Elegoo and Prusa, and up to 2 years from QIDI.

Bambu Lab ties the 2 US years to Bambu Store purchases, so ask a retailer which period it honors. Flashforge’s 400-hour cap ends cover after 50 days at 8 hours a day.

What does a 3D printer warranty not cover?

Every policy here excludes misuse and improper operation, and treats nozzles and build plates as consumables with little or no cover. Bambu Lab, Creality, Flashforge, Prusa and QIDI also exclude faults from skipped maintenance.

Modifications are the other common exclusion. Anycubic, Bambu Lab, Creality, Flashforge and QIDI exclude damage from third-party parts, unofficial firmware or unauthorized modification. Elegoo excludes products “modified by an individual”, Prusa says unsupported upgrades void the warranty, and Sovol requires that the printer “wasn’t modified”.

In the US, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act stops a maker from tying cover to its own brand of parts unless it supplies them free or holds a Federal Trade Commission waiver. It can still refuse damage another part caused. Does upgrading void the warranty? explains where that line falls.

When does a 3D printer warranty start?

Most makers count from the day the printer reaches you, but three use other dates:

  • Day of delivery or receipt: Anycubic, Bambu Lab, Prusa, QIDI and Sovol.
  • Day after delivery: Creality.
  • “The date the original order was received”: Elegoo, without saying whether that means the order date or the delivery date.
  • Outbound, invoice or manufacture date: Flashforge’s two policy pages disagree, so keep the invoice.

Bambu Lab, Prusa and QIDI pause the warranty while the printer is away for repair, and Anycubic suspends it while you wait for a replacement part. A replacement part does not restart the clock at Anycubic, Bambu Lab, Flashforge or Prusa.

Is a 3D printer bought on Amazon or from a retailer covered?

Usually, if the seller is the maker’s own store or an authorized dealer. Anycubic, Creality, Flashforge and QIDI name their official Amazon stores or authorized marketplaces as covered channels. Elegoo requires “a valid receipt or invoice” from Elegoo or an authorized distributor, so check who the seller was. Sovol’s policy is silent on Amazon orders.

Bambu Lab accepts receipts from authorized resellers such as Micro Center and Best Buy, but the store handles returns and supplies the warranty parts. Prusa says a reseller purchase “will be covered by the reseller”, and Flashforge sends retail buyers to the seller first.

Does a 3D printer warranty transfer to a second owner?

Only Prusa says its warranty transfers, for the time left from the first delivery. Anycubic’s does not: its one-year term excludes “gifted machines and second-hand machines”. Elegoo’s policy does not mention transfer, but it ties cover to the original order and gives pre-owned printers no warranty. Bambu Lab, Creality, QIDI and Sovol do not say, and every claim needs the original proof of purchase, so get the receipt from the seller.

Do you need to register a 3D printer for the warranty?

No. Anycubic, Bambu Lab, Creality, Elegoo, Flashforge, QIDI and Sovol publish no registration step. A Prusa claim needs the original invoice number and the serial number.

Can you buy an extended warranty for a 3D printer?

Yes, from some makers and from retailers. Creality’s US store sells Product Protection plans administered by Xcotton, and Elegoo’s offers a Seel plan on some models. Prusa sells one or two extra years with the printer; Printed Solid, its US subsidiary, lists a year on an assembled MK4S at $119 in October 2026.

Bambu Lab sells its own extension only in Canada, Europe and Australia, and QIDI lists a paid year only for its older i-Fast and X-CF Pro. Retailers such as MatterHackers sell their own plans: 3D printer extended warranties compares them, and Bambu Lab extended warranty covers Bambu Lab’s.

How to make a 3D printer warranty claim go smoothly

  1. Keep the receipt. Every maker here asks for proof of purchase, and Bambu Lab accepts only receipts “issued by Bambu Lab or distributors authorized by Bambu Lab”.
  2. Photograph the serial number and leave the label on. Creality, Flashforge and QIDI refuse service when the serial label is removed, altered or unreadable, and Anycubic and Bambu Lab when labels or serial numbers show tampering.
  3. Film the fault and save the logs. Bambu Lab and Creality ask for photos, video or log files. Flashforge charges for parts if an incomplete application stops it verifying the printer.
  4. Ask before you repair or ship. Bambu Lab says to “open a ticket first” and repair only on support’s instructions. Anycubic, Elegoo, QIDI and Sovol want a return approved before anything is sent.
  5. Keep the original box. Anycubic, Bambu Lab, Creality, Flashforge, QIDI and Sovol want returns in the original or approved packaging, and poor packing can bring charges.
  6. Meet the deadlines. Prusa needs the printer and the defect notice delivered “by the end of the contractual guarantee period”. After a return is approved, Bambu Lab and QIDI give 14 days to ship, Sovol 15 and Elegoo 7.

If a claim is refused, ask in writing which exclusion was applied and answer that point with your evidence.
