Prusa Research's warranty lasts one year for US buyers, on kits and assembled printers alike, and two years for consumers in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. This page covers what a kit's warranty includes, the paid extension, second-hand printers and how to file a claim.
An Original Prusa printer bought in the US has a one-year warranty from Prusa Research, whether it arrives as a kit or assembled. Consumers in the EU, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland get two years. One or two extra years can be bought only with the printer, and claims go through Prusa’s live chat or email.
This page summarizes Prusa’s Knowledge Base, its General Terms and Conditions (effective October 9, 2025) and its Customer Complaints Policy as published in October 2026. Policies change, and this is not legal advice.
How long is the Prusa warranty?
The Prusa warranty lasts one year for buyers in the United States and for business buyers. Only consumers in the EU, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland get two years. Kits and assembled printers get the same period, which starts on the day the printer arrives. A paid extension bought at checkout adds one or two years.

A free replacement part does not restart the clock: “In case we have provided a free replacement part, the warranty does not reset.” Time away for repair is added back, because the warranty is “paused” while the printer travels to Prusa, sits in repair and travels home.
Is the warranty different for the CORE One, MK4S, XL or MINI?
No. Prusa publishes one set of periods for all its printers, so the CORE One, CORE One+, MK4S, XL and MINI each get one year in the US. The XL+ product page states it outright: “Every XL+ comes with a 2-year warranty in the EU (1 year in the US, per local law)”. Only the extension on offer and its price differ by model.
Does the Prusa warranty cover kits?
Yes. A Prusa kit gets the same warranty period as an assembled printer, one year in the US, but Prusa says the cover “applies to every part separately”. Damage from improper assembly is excluded, and the kit warranty leaves out repair by Prusa’s technicians and the cost of shipping the printer to Prusa.
What that means for a kit owner:
- A defective part is covered for the whole period. A motor, fan, power supply or mainboard that fails from a manufacturing defect is a normal warranty claim.
- You do the repair work. You can send a kit to Prusa for factory repair, “but it will be charged.”
- Your build is your responsibility. A fault caused by how you assembled the printer is excluded. Prusa’s terms make one exception for consumers: it is liable where an assembly defect “resulted from inadequate or erroneous instructions supplied by the Seller”.
- An assembled printer’s warranty also covers the build. A fault in how the factory put it together is Prusa’s to fix. But self-repairs that modify components, such as soldering, void the assembled-printer warranty if attempted before contacting support.
What does the Prusa warranty not cover?
Prusa excludes normal wear and tear, improper use, and damage from skipping the handbook’s instructions or regular maintenance. So is running the printer “under improper conditions (temperature, dustiness, etc.)”. For print sheets, “Only sheets defective upon delivery are covered by the warranty.” Scratches and other cosmetic damage are excluded.

Unsupported hardware or software upgrades void the warranty. A separate page covers what that clause means and what US law adds. Custom firmware is the written exception: Prusa’s firmware articles for the CORE One, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5 and MINI say “Breaking the appendix seal won’t void your warranty”, though Prusa disclaims liability for damage caused by a printer with a broken seal.
How do you make a Prusa warranty claim?
Contact Prusa support by live chat or by email at [email protected], with your invoice number, the printer’s serial number and photos or video of the fault. Prusa accepts warranty cases only through “our official support channels (chat or email).”
- Find your numbers. You need “the number of the original invoice containing the product and the product’s serial number.” The serial is on a silver sticker: on the back of a CORE One between the power supply and the xBuddy board, on the back of the frame or rear plate of an MK-series printer, on the right side of the Z-axis extrusion of a MINI, and on the rear of an XL.
- Record the fault. Take clear photos and video. Prusa’s Complaints Policy also lists the printer’s log file as evidence.
- Contact support. Live chat runs 24/7 in English from the bottom right of prusa3d.com and help.prusa3d.com. Email replies take up to three business days.
- Follow the diagnosis. Support may send a part or ask for the printer. Prusa repairs or replaces. If neither is possible or proportionate, its Complaints Policy lets it issue a discount voucher or refund the full purchase price.
- Claim before the period ends. The Complaints Policy says the printer, “along with the notification of the defect, must be delivered to us by the end of the contractual guarantee period.” A fault reported on the last day is too late if the printer has not yet arrived.
Where are Prusa printers repaired in the US?
At Printed Solid, Prusa Research’s subsidiary in Wilmington, Delaware. Prusa calls its Prague service center and Printed Solid “our only official warranty repair offices.” The US center serves anyone with a US delivery address who bought the printer from Prusa or Printed Solid directly. Prusa says the terms match a Prague repair, but “the shipping cost and time might be lower”.
Who pays shipping on a Prusa warranty claim?
It depends on the printer type and on what the repair finds. On an assembled printer, “If a user error is found during a warranty repair, the parts and return shipping will be charged!” A kit’s warranty does not cover shipping the printer to Prusa at all. The Complaints Policy’s section on statutory consumer rights says the consumer pays to send claimed goods. A consumer whose claim is justified can recover reasonable costs within one month after the period for reporting the defect ends.
What if Prusa refuses the claim?
Ask support which exclusion it applied. Prusa’s terms say it always emails the result of a complaint. If a kit fault traces to the assembly manual, cite the instructions clause above. Prusa’s terms are governed by Czech law, and its Complaints Policy names the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (adr.coi.cz) as the out-of-court body for consumer disputes.
If the fault is not covered, Prague and Printed Solid both do paid repairs, and Prusa sells replacement parts. Prusa also lists independent repair shops, though it takes no responsibility for printers sent to those shops.
Does the Prusa warranty transfer to a second owner?
Yes, for whatever time is left. Prusa’s terms say the warranty “is transferable to another person only to the extent that it was granted by PRUSA to the first Buyer”, counted from the first sale. For a printer not bought directly from Prusa’s e-shop, the Knowledge Base says the warranty runs one year “from the date on which the printer was originally delivered (not the second-hand purchase)”.
- Bought from a private seller: get the original invoice from the seller and create an account in Prusa’s e-shop.
- Bought from a reseller: “the warranty will be covered by the reseller.” Printed Solid is the exception: Prusa’s US repair service is for anyone with a US delivery address “who has purchased the Original Prusa Printer from Prusa or Printed Solid directly.”
Can you buy a Prusa extended warranty?
Yes, but only in the same order as the printer: “A warranty extension cannot be purchased separately from the product or at a later time.” One or two extra years are offered for the MK4S, CORE One family, XL and MMU3 multi-material unit. The MINI+ gets one extra year only.
Prusa’s own e-shop listed no extensions when checked in October 2026, so the US prices below are from Printed Solid, Prusa’s US subsidiary. The Knowledge Base list of eligible products omits the CORE One, but Printed Solid sells CORE One extensions.

Business buyers have “the option to purchase additional warranties for another 12 or 24 months.” Prusa has no agreement with any third-party extended warranty provider, so a third-party plan follows its own contract.
Is the Prusa extended warranty worth it?
Three things decide it, and you can check each before checkout:
- Price against the printer. One extra year costs 11 to 13 percent of the printer and two extra years 21 to 22 percent, based on prusa3d.com’s US prices in October 2026: MK4S $709 kit or $999 assembled, CORE One+ $999 or $1,299, XL+ single-tool $2,299.
- What it covers. Prusa describes the extension as lengthening “the warranty period” and mentions no change to the cover. Wear parts, damage from use or modification, and repair labor on a kit stay excluded.
- What a repair costs without it. Prusa sells parts for owner repair. The xBuddy mainboard for the CORE One family is $129.99 for US delivery, about the price of one extra year on an assembled CORE One+ ($139).
