E3D Revo vs V6: differences, fit and specs
The E3D Revo's nozzle and heat break are one part that you change by hand when the hotend is cold. The E3D V6 has a separate nozzle, heat break and heater block, and its nozzle is hot-tightened. Both are rated 300 °C stock. The Revo Six fits a V6 groove mount, but V6 nozzles do not fit any Revo.

The E3D Revo and the E3D V6 differ in the nozzle: a Revo nozzle carries its own heat break and comes out by hand at room temperature, while a V6 nozzle screws into a heater block and is hot-tightened at 285 °C. Both are rated 300 °C out of the box, and E3D measures 13 mm³/s for each with a 0.4 mm brass nozzle in PLA. The Revo Six is the version that fits a V6 mount.
What is the difference between the E3D Revo and the V6?
The E3D Revo’s nozzle and heat break are one part you unscrew by hand when the hotend is cold, and its HeaterCore combines heater and thermistor. The E3D V6 uses a separate nozzle, heat break and aluminum heater block with a cartridge heater, and its nozzle is hot-tightened at 285 °C. Both are rated 300 °C stock.
All specs below are E3D’s. Prices are US retailer listings on October 30, 2026.
| Spec | E3D V6 | E3D Revo Six |
|---|---|---|
| Nozzle and heat break | Separate parts, both screwed into the heater block | One part: every Revo nozzle includes its heat break |
| Nozzle change | Heat to 285 °C (brass), then tighten to 2 Nm with a 7 mm spanner | By hand at room temperature, no tools; E3D says under 60 seconds |
| Heater | Cartridge in an aluminum block; 30 W nominal per the datasheet; E3D’s replacement cartridges are 40 W, 12 V or 24 V | HeaterCore: heater and thermistor potted in one unit; 40 W (12 V or 24 V) or 60 W (24 V) |
| Runaway behavior | Relies on firmware thermal protection | E3D says the HeaterCore’s positive temperature coefficient cuts power as it heats, “reducing hazards in the event of a thermal runaway” |
| Temperature sensor | Thermistor cartridge, Semitec 104NT-4-R025H42G, rated 300 °C; slides out for a PT100 or PT1000 | Semitec 104NT-4-R025H42G built into the HeaterCore; a Creality-thermistor version is sold for Creality firmware |
| Maximum, stock | 300 °C | 300 °C |
| Maximum, upgraded | 500 °C with a plated copper block and a PT100 or PT1000; E3D rates its current 40 W cartridge to 400 °C | 400 °C or 500 °C with a Revo high-temperature hotside and high-temperature (HT) nozzles |
| Flow, 0.4 mm brass, PLA at 220 °C | 13 mm³/s | 13 mm³/s; 16 mm³/s with a High Flow nozzle |
| Flow, 0.8 mm brass, PLA at 220 °C | 15 mm³/s | 17 mm³/s; 28 mm³/s with a High Flow nozzle |
| Mass | Not published | About 53 g |
| Mount | Groove mount | Groove mount, with “identical height, diameter, and groove mounting to E3D V6” |
| E3D brass nozzle sizes | 0.15 to 0.80 mm | 0.15 to 0.80 mm; High Flow 0.40 to 1.40 mm |
| Price (US) | $56.99 for the 24 V kit, or $61.99 with Bowden parts (Filastruder) | $79.99 complete (Filastruder), or $37.99 for the Revo Six cold side plus $49.99 for a Starter hot side with a 40 W HeaterCore and 0.4 and 0.6 mm brass nozzles (West3D) |
E3D’s V6 datasheet gives an older overall flow figure of 600 mm³/min (10 mm³/s) in the same PLA test. It also lists limits by setup: 260 °C with the silicone sock fitted, 285 °C without the sock on the E3D thermistor and 485 °C without it on a PT100. E3D publishes no V6 mass but says the Revo Micro, at under 30 g, is “half the mass of the E3D V6.”
E3D still sells the V6 and files its support pages under “E3D Classics.” Its store lists 1.75 mm, 24 V V6 kits. The Revo is now sold in two halves: a coldside kit (heatsink and mounting) and a hotside pack (HeaterCore and nozzles).
Nozzle availability and price
At these US retailers, a Revo brass nozzle costs about three to three and a half times as much as a V6 brass nozzle, and it includes the heat break. V6-style nozzles are also made by other companies, such as Micro Swiss and Phaetus. The table is sorted by Filastruder’s price, lowest first; all three are rated 300 °C.
| Nozzle, 0.4 mm unless noted | Filastruder, USD | Printed Solid, USD |
|---|---|---|
| V6 brass | $6.99 | $6.85 |
| Revo brass | $19.99, or $54.99 for three | $24.85 |
| Revo High Flow brass | $42.99 | $44.80 (1.0 to 1.4 mm) |
Prices on October 30, 2026. Revo nozzles also come in ObXidian, high-temperature and DiamondBack versions, and the wear-resistant nozzle comparison covers those materials.
Does the E3D Revo fit a V6 mount?
The E3D Revo Six fits a V6 mount: E3D gives its heatsink the same height, diameter and groove mount as the E3D V6, so it drops in and can keep the existing fan and duct. The Revo Voron and Revo CR instead bolt on with M3 screws, and the Revo Micro threads into an M12 mount.
| Revo version | Mount | Mass (E3D) | Printers E3D lists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revo CR | M3 x 0.5 screws; reuses the stock Creality screws | 30 g | Ender 2 Pro, Ender 3, 3S, 3 Pro and 3 V2, Ender 5, 5 Pro and 5 Plus, Ender 6, CR-10 family; a separate Sprite adaptor kit for the Ender 3 S1 |
| Revo Micro | M12 x 1.5 screw thread, 1 to 5 mm plate | 30 g | Prusa Mini (as the Revo Prusa Mini coldside); any M12 mount |
| Revo Six | V6 groove mount | About 53 g | Any V6 groove-mount setup; Prusa MK2 and MK3 family as the Revo Prusa MK3 coldside, which E3D says does not fit the MK3.5 |
| Revo Voron | M3 x 0.5 screws | 25 g | Voron 0.1, 1, 2.4, Legacy, Switchwire and Trident; pairs with the Stealthburner toolhead |
In the US, West3D lists the Six, Prusa MK3, Creality, Sprite and Voron cold sides at $37.99 each, to pair with a hot side. Filastruder sells complete Revo Six, Revo Micro, Revo Voron and Revo Creality hotends at $79.99. Printed Solid marks its complete Revo Micro listing end of life.
Is there an E3D Revo V6 adapter?
The Revo Six Coldside Kit is the part that adapts a V6 mount to Revo. The two systems do not mix: E3D says Revo nozzles “are not compatible with V6-style heaterblocks,” and E3D’s Revo Six heatsink listing says it does not work with V6 ecosystem parts. E3D’s “V6 Adaptor” is a different product: it lets Prusa Nextruder printers (MK3.9, MK4, MK4S, XL, CORE One) use V6 nozzles.
What changes when you swap a V6 for a Revo Six
- Parts. The heatsink and heat break change, and a HeaterCore replaces the heater block, cartridge and thermistor. V6 nozzles do not carry over. The groove mount, fan and duct can stay, according to E3D. E3D’s MK3 guide moves the PTFE tube from the V6 into the Revo Six and trims it to match the V6’s stick-out.
- Thermistor. E3D’s V6 thermistor cartridge and the standard HeaterCore use the same Semitec 104NT-4-R025H42G, so the sensor setting stays the same.
- Heater. With a new heater, run a PID (proportional-integral-derivative) tune. E3D suggests tuning at 200 °C for mostly PLA, or 240 °C for a 200 to 280 °C range. Keep thermal runaway protection on: the HeaterCore’s design limits runaway temperature, but it does not replace the firmware check. The heater verification guide covers the Klipper settings.
- Prusa MK3, MK3S and MK3S+. E3D says the standard Prusa firmware is incompatible with the Revo upgrade. Prusa has published separate E3DREVO firmware files since version 3.13.0, and E3D’s guide picks one of four by MK3 model and HeaterCore wattage (40 W or 60 W). From 3.14.1, the nozzle-change menu sets the hotend to 0 °C for a Revo, “eliminating the need to heat up to 280°C as required for the V6 nozzle design.”
- Z offset. Recalibrate it after the swap. E3D notes it may also need adjusting after a nozzle change.
E3D Revo vs Volcano: which flows more?
From 0.6 mm up, E3D’s PLA figures put Revo High Flow nozzles and the V6 Volcano within 1.5 mm³/s of each other. At 0.4 mm the Volcano leads, 20 against 16 mm³/s. The practical difference is size: the Volcano lengthens the melt zone and the whole hotend, while Revo High Flow nozzles keep the standard Revo dimensions.
| Nozzle | V6 brass | Revo brass | Revo High Flow brass | Volcano brass |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.4 mm | 13 | 13 | 16 | 20 |
| 0.6 mm | 14 | 14 | 22 | 21 |
| 0.8 mm | 15 | 17 | 28 | 29 |
| 1.0 mm | Not made | Not made | 35 | 35 |
| 1.2 mm | Not made | Not made | 37 | 38.5 |
| 1.4 mm | Not made | Not made | 37 | Not made |
Maximum volumetric flow in mm³/s, PLA at 220 °C, from E3D’s nozzle support pages.
- Fit. The Volcano is a longer heater block and nozzle on the V6 heat break. E3D says longer melt zones mean reworking the fan shroud and usually the Z endstop or probe. Revo High Flow nozzles keep the standard Revo size, so E3D says “there is no need to adjust your pre-existing mount and fan duct setups.”
- Heater. The Volcano uses a 30 W nominal cartridge. E3D says a 40 W HeaterCore may not hold temperature at high flow, and that you may need the 60 W HeaterCore for polycarbonate, ABS or nylon through a 0.8 mm nozzle or larger. E3D’s High Flow hot side pack includes it ($114.99 at West3D, with 0.4 and 0.6 mm High Flow nozzles).
- Temperature. Brass Volcano and Revo High Flow nozzles are both rated 300 °C. Plated copper and Nozzle X Volcano nozzles are rated 500 °C.
- Availability. E3D’s own store lists Volcano heater blocks and four Volcano nozzle types: hardened steel, Nozzle X, ObXidian and DiamondBack. On October 30, 2026, it listed no complete Volcano kit and no brass Volcano nozzle. In the US, Filastruder still lists Volcano kits from $25.99 and brass Volcano nozzles at $6.99. Printed Solid marks its brass Volcano nozzles end of life.
E3D Revo or V6: which to buy?
The choice turns on four conditions: how often you change nozzles, which nozzles you already own, whether you print above 300 °C and how much flow you need.
- You change nozzles often. A Revo nozzle comes out by hand when cold. A V6 nozzle change means heating to 285 °C and tightening to 2 Nm, and E3D warns that too much force can shear the nozzle or heat break.
- You own spare V6 nozzles. They do not fit any Revo. A V6 keeps them in use, and a 0.4 mm V6 brass nozzle costs $6.99 against $19.99 for a Revo brass nozzle at Filastruder.
- You print above 300 °C. Both reach 500 °C with the upgrades in the table below, and both then need a PT100 or PT1000. Firmware must match the new sensor and heater (firmware limits guide). Running above your printer maker’s limit is at your own risk and may void the warranty.
- You need more flow. On a V6, the Volcano adds flow but changes the hotend’s length. On a Revo, High Flow nozzles add similar flow from 0.6 mm up with no mount change.
V6 hotend upgrade options
Sorted by goal. Parts and ratings are E3D’s; prices are US retailer listings on October 30, 2026.
| Goal | Staying on the V6 | Moving to a Revo |
|---|---|---|
| Abrasive filaments | V6 hardened steel nozzle, $19.99 at Filastruder, rated 350 °C; E3D says it needs a plated copper block above 240 °C | Revo ObXidian nozzle, $57.99 at Filastruder |
| Above 300 °C | Plated copper block ($24.99) and PT1000 ($18.99) at Filastruder, which E3D rates to 500 °C, plus a heater rated for the target and a nozzle rated above it (brass 300 °C, hardened steel 350 °C, plated copper or Nozzle X 500 °C) | High-temperature hotside (PT100 or PT1000): 400 °C with a 40 W heater or 500 °C with a 65 W heater, $79.99 or $119.99 without nozzle for the PT1000 versions at West3D; Revo HT nozzles; brass Revo nozzles stay at 300 °C |
| More flow | Volcano block and nozzles; hotend gets longer | Revo High Flow nozzles ($42.99 each) and a 60 W HeaterCore ($34.99) at Filastruder |
| Tool-free nozzle changes | Not possible on V6 parts | Revo Six cold side ($37.99) and Starter hot side ($49.99) at West3D, or a complete Revo Six ($79.99) at Filastruder |
E3D sells the Revo Six Coldside Kit to pair with its Genius 400 hotside pack, which prints to 400 °C. A PT100 needs an amplifier board unless the printer already uses one. The high-temperature hotend comparison covers the other 400 to 500 °C hotends.
