Does Bambu Handy work in LAN mode? Apps that do

Bambu Handy does not work with a printer in LAN Only mode, and Handy 4.4.2 (November 2026) adds no LAN support. Bambu Studio and Bambu Connect control a LAN-only printer from a computer; Home Assistant, Bambuddy and SimplyPrint put it on a phone.

No. Bambu Handy stops working when a Bambu Lab printer is in LAN Only mode, and the newest version, 4.4.2 (November 6, 2026), adds no LAN support. To reach a LAN-only printer from a phone, run third-party software on your network: Home Assistant with ha-bambulab, Bambuddy or SimplyPrint. Bambu Lab’s own LAN tools, Bambu Studio and Bambu Connect, run on computers.

Facts below are as of November 7, 2026, from Bambu Lab’s wiki and app listings and from each tool’s own documentation.

Does Bambu Handy work in LAN mode?

No. Bambu Lab’s Handy guide says the app “does not currently support printer LAN mode and must use the Internet to connect to the printer.” Its LAN mode guide, updated November 5, 2026, still lists Handy as unavailable in LAN mode. Handy uses your local network only to find printers; data transfer goes over the internet.

Bambu Handy 4.4.2 reached the App Store on November 6, 2026. Its release notes, identical on Google Play, cover the new Bambu Lab H3C and never mention LAN mode. A user request for LAN support in Handy has been open on Bambu Lab’s forum since September 2024 with no reply from Bambu Lab staff.

Developer Mode does not bring Handy back. It is a switch inside LAN Only mode, so the printer stays off Bambu’s cloud. To use Handy, the printer has to leave LAN Only mode.

Can you keep Bambu Handy and still use local tools?

Yes, if the printer stays in its default cloud mode. The ha-bambulab docs say Home Assistant can read a cloud-connected printer’s sensors directly over your network when you give it the printer’s IP address. On firmware with Bambu’s authorization control, though, “the majority of the write functionality will no longer work” while the printer stays on Bambu Cloud. Write means commands such as setting temperatures or moving an axis.

On the H2D, H2S and X2D, ha-bambulab says you can turn on the LAN Only Liveview switch without turning on LAN Only mode. The stream is then available on your network and still works in Bambu Handy. LAN mode vs cloud compares the two modes.

Which app can control a Bambu Lab printer in LAN mode?

Bambu Lab’s own apps for a LAN Only printer are Bambu Studio and Bambu Connect, and both run on computers, not phones. For a phone, use third-party software that runs on your network: Home Assistant with the community ha-bambulab integration, the self-hosted Bambuddy web app or the SimplyPrint service. On current firmware, control from these needs Developer Mode.

Option Made by Where you use it Developer Mode Camera Start prints Cost
Bambu Connect Bambu Lab (beta) Windows or macOS computer Not needed No; liveview “not yet supported” Yes, sliced G-code or 3MF files Free download
Bambu Studio Bambu Lab Windows, macOS or Linux computer Not needed Yes, with LAN Only Liveview on Yes Free, open source
Bambuddy Community, open source Phone or computer browser; server on your network For control; read-only without it Yes Yes Free
BIQU Panda Touch BIQU Its own touchscreen beside the printer For full control on newer firmware Not stated by BIQU Yes, 3MF files on the printer’s card or USB drive Paid hardware
Home Assistant with ha-bambulab Community, open source Home Assistant app (iOS, Android); server on your network For control; monitoring works without it Yes, chamber camera Yes, a sliced 3MF already on the SD card Free
SimplyPrint SimplyPrint SimplyPrint app or web; client on a Raspberry Pi or computer on your network Required on current firmware Yes Yes Free for 2 printers; paid plans from $5.99 a month

For the third-party options, turn on LAN Only mode first, then Developer Mode. ha-bambulab and Bambuddy both ask for the printer’s IP address, access code and serial number, all found in the printer’s settings. Bambuddy also wants “Store sent files on external storage” turned on in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer, so it can read print files for thumbnails and previews.

A few limits the makers state:

  • Bambu Connect: Bambu Lab’s page marks it as beta and lists a Linux version as “under development”.
  • BIQU Panda Touch: BIQU’s wiki lists it as compatible up to firmware 01.08.01.00 on the P1P and P1S, 01.08.02.00 on the X1C, 01.01.02.00 on the X1E and 01.04.00.00 on the A1 and A1 mini. The list leaves out the H2 series and P2S. For newer firmware, BIQU says to enable Developer Mode to regain full control.
  • ha-bambulab: it starts a print only from a 3MF file that already holds G-code and sits in the root of the printer’s SD card, per its docs. For the camera, enter the printer’s IP address on a P1 or A1, and turn on LAN Mode LiveView on an X1. Setup is in Bambu Lab and Home Assistant.
  • SimplyPrint: its client must run on a Raspberry Pi, Mac, Windows or Linux computer that stays on, and phones cannot run it, per SimplyPrint’s Bambu guide.

Bambu Farm Manager, Bambu Lab’s free Windows suite for several printers, is a separate local route. Printers added to it stop talking to Bambu’s cloud, and Handy cannot control them. It needs LAN Only mode turned off on the printer.

Which option fits

  • You want only Bambu Lab software: Bambu Studio on a computer on the same network. Turn on LAN Only Liveview to see the camera.
  • You already run Home Assistant: ha-bambulab, then use the Home Assistant app on your phone.
  • You want a phone dashboard without Home Assistant: Bambuddy, if you have a computer or Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 that stays on. It runs in Docker or from a native Windows installer.
  • You want phone access away from home without setting up a VPN: SimplyPrint, if you accept a third-party service between your phone and the printer.
  • You want a screen next to the printer: the Panda Touch, after checking your firmware against BIQU’s list.

Is there an Android app for Bambu LAN mode?

Not from Bambu Lab: Bambu Handy needs the cloud. On Android, the Home Assistant app and the SimplyPrint app are both free on Google Play, and Bambuddy works in the phone’s browser.

On iPhone, the same three work. PandaBeFree is an open-source iPhone app that connects to the printer over your network with its IP address and access code, no cloud or server involved. It is a TestFlight beta, not an App Store release. It needs iOS 18, its developer has tested it only on a Bambu Lab P2S, and the last code change was in March 2026.

Watching the printer from outside your home

LAN Only mode blocks starting prints from outside your local network, Bambu Lab’s guide says. Home Assistant is reachable only on your local network by default. Its docs list Home Assistant Cloud, a paid subscription, or a VPN such as Tailscale for remote access. SimplyPrint’s app works away from home: its client on your network connects out to SimplyPrint’s servers. The printer itself can stay isolated from the internet, according to SimplyPrint’s guide.
