Guide
PrusaLink default username, password and API key
On current Prusa printers PrusaLink logs in as maker, with a 15-character password shown under Settings > Network > PrusaLink, and that password is also the API key. PrusaLink on a Raspberry Pi has no default: you choose the username and password in its setup wizard and change them in the web interface.

On a Prusa Core One, MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL or MINI, the PrusaLink username is maker and the password is a 15-character code the printer generates. Both are on the printer’s screen under Settings > Network > PrusaLink. On an MK3S+ or MK2.5S running PrusaLink on a Raspberry Pi there is no default: you log in with the username and password you created in the setup wizard.
Details below match Prusa firmware 7.0.0 (November 3, 2026), PrusaLink 0.8.1 for the Raspberry Pi and PrusaSlicer 2.9.7. For the first-time network and browser setup, see PrusaLink setup.
What is the default PrusaLink username and password?
On the Prusa Core One, MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL and MINI, the PrusaLink username is maker and the password is a random 15-character string the printer generates. Both are shown on the printer under Settings > Network > PrusaLink. PrusaLink on a Raspberry Pi (MK3S+, MK2.5S) has no default: you set both in its wizard.
| Printer | Username | Password | Where to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core One, MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL, MINI, MINI+ (and their S, + and L versions) | maker, fixed |
15 random characters, generated by the printer | Settings > Network > PrusaLink (rows User and Password) |
| MK3, MK3S, MK3S+, MK2.5, MK2.5S with PrusaLink on a Raspberry Pi | Chosen in the setup wizard | Chosen in the setup wizard | Nowhere: PrusaLink stores only a digest of the password |
| SL1, SL1S | Shown on the printer | Shown on the printer | Settings > Network > Login credentials |
To log in:
- Find the IP address. On the printer, open Settings > Network > IPv4 Address. On the MK3 family, read it off the LCD.
- Open it in a browser. Type the IP address into a browser on the same network.
- Sign in. Enter the username and password at the prompt.
Prusa recommends Chrome or Firefox because Safari and Edge can have login problems. Firmware 5.1.2 fixed one Safari login bug.
The printer’s password generator never uses 0, 1, uppercase O, uppercase I or lowercase l, so when you copy the password off the screen, a character that looks like one of those is something else.
How do you change the PrusaLink password?
On the Core One, MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL and MINI you cannot type your own password: open Settings > Network > PrusaLink on the printer and select Generate Password to replace it with a new random one. On PrusaLink for Raspberry Pi, change both the username and password under Settings in the web interface.
Core One, MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL, MINI:
- Open the menu. On the printer, go to Settings > Network > PrusaLink.
- Generate. Select Generate Password. The Password row shows the new password, and the old one stops working.
The username stays maker. Firmware 7.0.0 has no setting for it, and Generate Password is the only way to change the password.
PrusaLink on a Raspberry Pi (MK3 family, MK2.5S):
- Open Settings. Log in to PrusaLink in a browser and open Settings.
- Edit the User section. Change User Name if you want (at least 3 characters), then fill in New Password and Repeat Password.
- Confirm. Enter your current password in Password and select Change.
The new password must have no leading or trailing spaces and meet one of three rules: at least 8 characters with a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter and a number; at least 8 characters with a symbol such as @; or at least 15 characters.
After any change, update every tool that stored the old password: the PrusaSlicer physical printer, Home Assistant and any script.
What if you forgot the PrusaLink password?
On the Core One, MK4, XL and MINI family there is nothing to recover: the current password is always on the printer under Settings > Network > PrusaLink.
On a Raspberry Pi, PrusaLink keeps only a digest (a one-way hash) of the password, so nobody can read it back. Prusa’s fix is to run the setup wizard again: remove prusa_printer_settings.ini from /home/pi and set up the SD card in Raspberry Pi Imager again. The wizard then asks for new credentials and links the printer to Prusa Connect. See PrusaLink on a Raspberry Pi for the card setup.
Where do you find the PrusaLink API key?
On the Core One, MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL and MINI there is no separate API key: the PrusaLink password under Settings > Network > PrusaLink is the API key. On PrusaLink for Raspberry Pi, the key is on the web interface’s Settings page under API Key, where Reset creates a new one.
Prusa’s PrusaSlicer guide says it directly: “the password item is your PrusaLink API key.” The firmware accepts that one password two ways, in an X-Api-Key header or as an HTTP digest login (the browser-style login that sends a hash, not the password) for user maker.
MINI firmware 4.4.x was different: it had a separate key under Settings > Network > PrusaLink > Current API key, with a Generate API key option. That is why older guides and some tools still ask for an “API key”.
On the Raspberry Pi version, the setup wizard stopped creating an API key in PrusaLink 0.7.0, so the API Key field can be empty until you select Reset. Prusa’s troubleshooting page adds that from 0.7.0 the key also appears in Prusa Connect, in the printer’s Settings tab.
Which credential each tool takes:
| Tool and setting | Core One, MK4, XL, MINI | PrusaLink on a Raspberry Pi |
|---|---|---|
| Home Assistant, PrusaLink integration | Username maker, the printer’s password |
Wizard username and password, not the API key |
| PrusaSlicer, Host Type PrusaLink, Authorization Type “API key” | Printer’s password in API Key / Password | The API key from Settings |
| PrusaSlicer, Host Type PrusaLink, Authorization Type “HTTP digest” | User maker, the printer’s password |
Wizard username and password |
PrusaSlicer did not drop the API key: version 2.9.7 still offers both authorization types and defaults to API key. Prusa recommends HTTP digest “if security is a concern”. Its SL1 documentation explains why: an API key travels over the network unencrypted.
The Home Assistant integration needs firmware 4.7.0 or later (5.1.0 on the MINI), or PrusaLink 0.7.2 or later on a Raspberry Pi. Setup steps are in PrusaLink and Home Assistant.
