Does Bambu Studio work offline? Slicing without internet
Bambu Studio slices on your own computer with no internet connection and no Bambu Lab account. Offline, you print from the printer's microSD card, or over your local network in LAN Only mode once the Bambu Network plug-in is installed. That plug-in is the one download that needs internet, and Bambu Lab documents a manual install for Windows.

Yes: Bambu Studio is a desktop slicer that runs on your own computer, so it slices with no internet connection and no Bambu Lab account. The one download that needs internet is the Bambu Network plug-in, which the slicer uses to send prints to the printer, even in LAN Only mode. Without it, you print from the printer’s microSD card.
Details below are for Bambu Studio 02.09.01.70, released November 3, 2026, and Bambu Lab’s wiki as of November 7, 2026.
Does Bambu Studio work offline?
Yes. Bambu Studio slices and exports print files offline with no login. Its printer, filament and process presets install with the program. Internet is needed only for online services: logging in, cloud preset sync, MakerWorld models, preset and firmware updates, printing from outside your network, and downloading the Bambu Network plug-in.
| Feature | Works offline? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud printing from outside your network | No | Bambu Lab’s LAN mode guide: “Cannot start prints remotely from outside the local network”. |
| Downloading the Bambu Network plug-in | No | “The plugin installation requires Internet connection.” See the manual install below. |
| Exporting a sliced file to a microSD card | Yes | File, then Export, then Export plate sliced file. |
| Importing and exporting presets as files | Yes | File, then Export, then Export Preset Bundle; File, then Import, then Import Configs. |
| Logging in to a Bambu Lab account | No | Optional. Bambu Lab’s quick start says logging in needs the network plug-in. |
| MakerWorld: opening, publishing and home-page models | No | Version 02.09.01.70 fixed the Model Mall and MakerLab pages not refreshing when the network returns after an offline start. |
| Printer firmware updates from Bambu Studio | No | Update from a memory card instead: see offline firmware updates. |
| Sending prints over LAN in LAN Only mode | Yes, once the plug-in is installed | Bambu Lab: the printer talks to the slicer “for sending files and monitoring without requiring internet access”. |
| Slicing with the bundled presets | Yes | Presets for Bambu Lab printers and other brands (Anker, Anycubic, Creality and more) ship with the program. |
| System preset updates | No | Bambu Studio checks for them after startup when the option is on. |
| User preset sync between computers | No | Needs a login; Bambu Lab says user settings sync “to Bambu Cloud”. |
Does Bambu Studio have an offline mode?
No separate switch. Bambu Studio works offline whenever it has no connection, and its Preferences have no offline or stealth setting as of version 02.09.01.70. LAN Only mode is a setting on the printer, not in the slicer.
To turn off its online features on a computer that does have internet, open Preferences (Ctrl+P on Windows; in the Bambu Studio menu on macOS) and clear these options:
- Auto sync user presets (Printer/Filament/Process)
- Auto check for system presets updates
- Show online staff-picked models on the home page
How do you use Bambu Studio without an internet connection?
Install Bambu Studio from a full download, skip the login and the plug-in step, and slice as usual with the bundled presets. Then export the sliced file to the printer’s microSD card and start it from the screen, or send it in LAN Only mode if the network plug-in is installed.
- Download the installer. On any computer with internet, download Bambu Studio from bambulab.com/download or the GitHub releases page. Bambu Lab’s quick start sends Linux users to GitHub. Copy the file to the offline computer on a USB drive.
- Run the setup wizard. Choose a login region, your printers and nozzles, and your filaments. Bambu Studio then installs the Bambu Network plug-in if that option is on, which fails without internet. Skip it, or install it by hand (below).
- Skip the login. Bambu Lab’s quick start calls logging in “optional, but strongly recommended”. It adds print history and cloud preset sync, neither of which works offline.
- Slice. Add the model, pick the Printer, Filament and Process presets, and click Slice plate.
- Get the file to the printer. Click the arrow next to Print plate, choose Export plate sliced file and save it to the microSD card. Then start it from the printer’s screen. Or turn on LAN Only mode on the printer and send the job with its access code. The LAN-only mode guide covers both, model by model.
Moving your presets to an offline computer
With no cloud sync, carry presets over as files. On the connected computer, choose File, then Export, then Export Preset Bundle. A printer bundle saves as a .bbscfg file with its user filament and process presets, and a filament bundle as a .bbsflmt file. On the offline computer, choose File, then Import, then Import Configs. It accepts .json, .bbscfg, .bbsflmt and .zip files.
Is there a Bambu Studio offline installer or standalone version?
Yes. The regular downloads are complete packages, so they install with no connection: the Windows installer for version 02.09.01.70 is 435 MB. GitHub releases also include a Windows .zip that runs without installing, and Linux AppImage files. Since version 2.8.1, a folder named configuration beside the program makes Bambu Studio portable.
The downloads for version 02.09.01.70 on GitHub:
| Platform | File | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Linux, Ubuntu 22.04 | .AppImage | 242 MB |
| Linux, Ubuntu 24.04 | .AppImage | 243 MB |
| macOS | .dmg | 306 MB |
| Windows | .exe installer | 435 MB |
| Windows | .zip, no installer (run bambu-studio.exe) | 473 MB |
The Bambu Network plug-in is not part of the program: Bambu Studio downloads it after the setup wizard.
To make a copy fully portable, create an empty folder named configuration next to the program: beside bambu-studio.exe from the Windows .zip, beside the .app bundle on macOS, or beside the AppImage on Linux. Bambu Studio then keeps its settings, user presets and network plug-in there instead of in your user profile. The feature arrived in public beta 02.08.01.55 on July 14, 2026, which also restored the --datadir command-line option for choosing a settings folder. Without the configuration folder, an unzipped copy uses the same user profile data as an installed one, presets included.
How do you install the Bambu network plug-in offline?
Bambu Lab documents no fully offline install, but its wiki gives a manual method for Windows: download the plug-in zip in a web browser, then extract it into Bambu Studio’s plugins folder. Only the download needs internet, so you can do it on any connected computer and carry the zip over on a USB drive.
- Note your Bambu Studio version. Open Help, then About Bambu Studio. Keep the first three parts: 02.09.01.70 becomes 02.09.01.
- Look up the matching plug-in. On a connected computer, open
https://api.bambulab.cn/v1/iot-service/api/slicer/resource?slicer/plugins/cloud=AA.BB.CC.00with AA.BB.CC replaced by those three parts. The browser shows a line of JSON text. - Download the zip. In that text, find the resource whose type is
slicer/plugins/cloudand open itsurl, which ends in .zip. Copy the downloaded file to a USB drive. - Close Bambu Studio. Close every Bambu Studio window on the offline computer.
- Extract the zip. Extract it into
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio\plugins. On a portable copy, the plugins folder sits inside theconfigurationfolder instead. - Restart Bambu Studio. With the plug-in installed, the Device page opens and you can connect to a printer in LAN Only mode.
Notes on the manual install:
- Use the .com address if .cn is blocked. Bambu Lab’s guide uses api.bambulab.cn. On November 7, 2026, api.bambulab.com gave an identical answer: plug-in 02.09.01.54 for Bambu Studio 02.09.01.
- Match the versions. The lookup is keyed to your Bambu Studio version. After every update, fetch the matching plug-in again.
- macOS and Linux have no manual steps. The wiki’s macOS section covers only software that blocks the download (Cisco AnyConnect, iCloud Private Relay and AVG Security), and there is no Linux section. On those systems, connect the computer to the internet once and let Bambu Studio install the plug-in itself.
- The plug-in is proprietary. Bambu Studio itself is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0); the plug-in is a separate Bambu Lab component. Bambu Lab’s wiki says obtaining or using it means accepting the Studio Terms of Use.
If you cannot install the plug-in at all, the microSD route needs none: export the sliced file and print from the card, as in the LAN-only mode guide. If the automatic download fails on a connected computer, see Bambu Lab LAN mode not working.
